Cox Enters South County Residential Phone Market

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Marking a groundbreaking step in the war of the wires, cable television giant Cox Communications Inc. launched its telephone service to residents in south Orange County.
The service will initially be available to 1,500 households in Trabuco Canyon, with another 22,000 homes in the Rancho Santa Margarita area by the end of the year.
The Atlanta company plans to offer the phone service to the remaining 242,000 homes in its service area throughout South County by the end of 1998.
