The season starts with a good nonleague matchup between visiting Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach at 3:15 p.m. today. The host Artists, led by Spencer Dornin (two-meter man), one of the county’s top players, are coming back from a very successful 1996 season, during which they reached the Southern Section Division II finals.
Corona del Mar is on the verge of reclaiming its place among the county’s top teams.
In other action, the Valencia tournament takes place today through Saturday at Valencia and Canyon highs. The championship game is 1 p.m. Saturday at Valencia.
