Nineteen matches open the girls’ volleyball season today with the top matchup featuring San Clemente at Huntington Beach at 6 p.m.
On Friday, outside hitter Liz Belloni leads Laguna Beach, the defending Division I-AA champion, against setter Melissa Plass and defending Division I-A champion Fountain Valley at 5:30 p.m. at Fountain Valley. Also Friday, sophomore Kelly Overby leads Calvary Chapel, a Division IV state finalist last season, against sophomore April Ross and host Newport Harbor at 5 p.m.
