Gap to Build Distribution Center in Fresno

Gap Inc., a San Francisco-based clothing manufacturer, said that it will build a distribution center in Fresno. The estimated $40-million project will be built on a 146-acre site near the Fresno-Yosemite International Airport. The Fortune 200 company has been considering Fresno and Reno for its Pacific distribution center site. To help lure the company to the San Joaquin Valley, state legislators Friday approved a $500,000 subsidy. “As a California company committed to the economic strength of this state and the welfare of our local communities, we are delighted to be able to keep our business growing inside California,” Don Fisher, Gap founder and chairman of the board, said in a written statement. Fresno Mayor Jim Patterson said construction will begin this month.
