Toddler Found Unconscious in Mobile Home Park Spa

A 16-month-old Sylmar girl was in serious condition Monday after being pulled unconscious from a mobile home park spa, authorities said.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis said paramedics were summoned just before noon to a residence on Via San Miguel in the Santiago Estates mobile home park.

Collis said a 14-year-old girl apparently discovered the toddler, pulled her from the water and summoned help.

A neighbor performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the child, who was breathing sporadically by the time paramedics arrived, Collis said.

Fire officials could not provide the name of the victim or her rescuers. Authorities estimated that she was unattended in the water for between two and five minutes.

The girl was taken by Fire Department helicopter to Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles. Hospital spokesman Steve Rutledge said she was in critical condition, on a respirator and “going in and out of consciousness.” Because all emergency beds at Childrens Hospital were full, Rutledge said, plans were being made late Monday to transfer the girl to County-USC.
