The board of the Orange County Marine Institute’s Joint Powers Authority has voted to dissolve itself and create a private, nonprofit organization to manage the 22-year-old marine education program. The Orange County Board of Supervisors recently granted a 35-year lease to the Marine Institute in Dana Point Harbor, eliminating the need for the Joint Powers Authority. The authority was created in 1977 as a partnership between the county, the Orange County Department of Education and the four community college districts. Information: (949) 496-2274.
