NEWPORT BEACH

An initiative to reverse the city’s June approval of a new traffic ordinance was unveiled Wednesday. Members of the Green Light group want to overturn the ordinance, which would force developers to pay for street improvements only after they have been completed.

“Newport Beach is a beach and residential community, one of the finest in the state, and our goal is to keep it that way,” said Philip Arst, a high-tech consultant and president of Community Association Alliance, the largest residents’ group in the city.

The group needs to gather 7,600 signatures by November to qualify the measure for the April ballot.
