I wish to thank you for your article on Jerry Goldsmith by Elaine Dutka (“Cue the Composer,” Aug. 1). However, who cares if New Yorker critic Alex Ross thinks some of John Williams’ Oscars should have gone to Goldsmith?
What music has Ross written? Why was that included? Can’t we just write about Goldsmith without dissing John Williams or anyone else for that matter? They are all wonderful and great and have added much to musical literature (not just film music but all music).
