POMONA — A man holding a knife to the throat of his girlfriend was shot by a police officer when the woman ducked, sheriff’s officials said.
Henry Acuna, 40, of Pomona was shot once in the upper body Sunday night and taken to a hospital, where he was in critical condition, said Sheriff’s Deputy Cruz Solis.
The couple were arguing on the street when the 33-year-old woman, who was not identified, tried to call 911 on a pay phone. Acuna allegedly grabbed the phone and slammed it down, Solis said.
The woman ran and made the call on another phone, Solis said. One officer arrived in the 1500 block of South Garey Avenue to find the suspect with a knife to her throat.
Sheriff’s officials were investigating.
