Fair Posts Decade’s Highest Attendance

As carnival workers tore down rides and packed up game booths Monday, Ventura County Fair officials celebrated the success of this year’s event and started planning for next year’s.
More than 276,000 people flocked to the fairgrounds at Seaside Park during the 12-day event, the highest attendance in a decade.
“It was unbelievable,” said Teri Raley, fair publicist. “The stars just all lined up right.”
Raley credited good weather and diverse activities for the fair’s strong attendance. Visitors hopped on rides, danced to music, threw darts to win stuffed animals and thrilled at the nightly fireworks shows.
The fair wrapped up Sunday night with a fireworks finale and the announcement of next year’s theme: Visions of Tomorrow. Though she was tired, Raley was already looking forward to publicizing the 2000 fair.
“Ventura County speaks for itself at an event like the fair,” she said. “It makes us all awfully pleased to be here.”
