* First Union Corp. appointed two vice chairmen, Benjamin P. Jenkins III and Don McMullen, as the bank tries to regain investor confidence. McMullen, 50, will oversee the company’s capital management business. He takes over from G. Kennedy Thompson, who will become president of the bank, replacing John Georgius, who retires at the end of the year. Jenkins, 55, will have responsibility for First Union’s general bank, which includes retail and commercial state banking and corporate customer services.

* Federal-Mogul Corp. and Dana Corp. are among the final bidders for TRW Inc.’s automobile engine-valve business, people familiar with the talks said. Final bids were filed Monday, they said. TRW would not name the companies involved.
