The Placentia City Council will reconsider a plan to build 74 single-family homes on the north side of Alta Vista Street between Rose Drive and Jefferson Street. With Councilman Michael L. Maertzweiler absent from the Dec. 15 City Council meeting, the council deadlocked 2 to 2 on a proposal to develop the 18.29-acre site, which contains six active oil wells. The city prohibits building on a lot within 100 feet of an oil well.
Frank Faye, a representative of the developer, Shapell Industries Inc., said the lots would not be developed until after the wells are capped and abandoned. Council members Maria Moreno and Norman Eckenrode expressed concerns about the abandonment process and soil cleanup efforts. They voted against the housing project proposal.
The council will meet tonight at 7:30 in chambers, 401 East Chapman Ave.
