RENO — A sniper opened fire on Interstate 80 Monday, hitting at least four vehicles, wounding one man in the chest and forcing authorities to close the highway from the outskirts of Reno to the California border.
At least two other people were injured by flying glass as they were shot at along a five-mile stretch of the interstate west of Reno between 9 and 9:30 a.m.
Dozens of law officers, FBI agents, a SWAT team and two helicopters from the Nevada Highway Patrol were searching the area as the interstate was closed for five hours in both directions for about a 10-mile stretch of road.
The name of the man who was shot in the chest was not released. He was taken to Washoe Medical Center but his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.
