Getting in Tune With Lip Gloss
Think of it as music for your mouth. Called Compact Gloss, these glosses match local bands with representative colors and come in tins shaped like compact discs.
Right now there are five rich and creamy band shades, including a bright and shiny red for Fever, minty-tasting, see-through shimmer for Oleander, and pearly baby pink for Star 69.
Best friends and business partners Stephanie Rechtshaid and Pamella Barrden developed the lip gloss after working in the record industry. The duo loved music and makeup and saw that the new bands they loved weren’t getting the promotion they needed, so they decided to help out. (The bands get a royalty and an e-mail link from the company’s Web site.)
“The color represents what the band and the music made us think of,” Rechtshaid says. “Baby pink went with the baby-voiced sound of Star 69, and Oleander is green because it’s a . . . plant native to Northern California and the band is from there.”
Displays for the makeup include listening stations where you can hear tracks from the bands’ current albums, as well as gloss samples. You can get glossed at area Nordstrom stores. Or check out https://www.starcrazy.com.
