A member of the Los Angeles County Commission for Women will speak about community empowerment at a Sylmar Coordinating Council meeting Wednesday in Northridge.
Barbara Perkins, who was appointed to the commission three years ago, will address how Sylmar can get more involved in community development.
“It’s about being able to connect community members with developers, corporations, schools and after-school programs--all of those things that are woven together that make up a high quality of life,” Perkins said.
The monthly meeting of the coordinating council, which serves as a forum for the improvement of Sylmar, will begin at noon at the Mandarin King restaurant, 17092 Devonshire St., Northridge. Lunch is $7 per person.
