OJAI — A 59-year-old man was killed Sunday after the motorcycle he was driving plunged down an embankment on California 150 near Ojai, said California Highway Patrol officials.
Joseph Young of Oxnard was traveling westbound just east of the Dennison Grade about 1 p.m. when he veered to the right, went off the road and tumbled down an embankment.
Officials did not know what caused Young to leave his lane.
A rescue team pulled Young, who had been wearing a helmet, up the embankment and transferred him to Ojai Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:05 p.m.
CHP officers closed the highway in both directions for about 45 minutes; traffic backed up about half a mile, said Officer Steven Reid.
