Caltech President David Baltimore has joined the board of Thousand Oaks-based biotechnology giant Amgen Corp. Baltimore was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1975 for the discovery of reverse transcriptase, a natural substance that explained how tumor-causing viruses were able to become part of the genetic machinery of healthy cells. He also heads the National Institutes of Health’s AIDS vaccine research advisory committee.
