BROCKTON, Mass. — A carnival worker was charged Friday with raping a 12-year-old girl in his tent on the fairgrounds.
Anthony J. Conley, a 28-year-old ride operator at the Brockton Fair, pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on $75,000 bail.
He was arrested early Friday as an angry crowd of the victim’s relatives and friends searched for him at the fairgrounds, threatening to kill him. The girl was allegedly attacked Thursday evening.
“It appears that he lured her back to his tent. She wound up going back with him, and that’s when the sexual assault took place,” police Sgt. Emanuel Gomes said.
