After nine previous losses, trainer Bob Baffert got his first victory in New York when the streaking Forestry won the $150,000 Dwyer Stakes Sunday at Belmont Park.
Owned by Aaron and Marie Jones, Forestry, a $1.5 million yearling purchase, earned his fifth consecutive victory in his graded stakes debut, beating Doneraile Court by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:41 for the 1 1/16 miles.
The son of Storm Cat tracked the pace set by the 2-1 second choice, then took over after six furlongs and drew away under jockey Jerry Bailey.
A few hours later, Baffert won another stakes race when 4-1 shot Del Mar Gray won the $125,000 Khaled, beating 6-1 shot Margeds Dancer by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:41 1/5 for the 1 1/16 miles on turf.
