The owner of a San Clemente construction company has been indicted in San Diego County for 65 counts of insurance fraud, tax evasion and payroll tax fraud, according to the San Diego district attorney’s office.
Steven Richard Gillette of S.G. Construction was one of 21 individuals indicted for allegedly defrauding the State Compensation Insurance Fund, which provides workers’ compensation to employers.
Officials said Gillette and the other defendants made misrepresentations to the state fund in order to receive cheaper insurance rates.
Gillette declined to comment Wednesday. He faces a maximum sentence of 12 years, according to the district attorney. His trial is scheduled for Sept. 7.
