The City Council this week voted 3 to 2 to use public funds to close the 4-foot-by-6-inch hole in a wall along Cerritos Avenue and Courson Drive. The vote capped nearly seven months of discussion. The council majority said that since the city created the hole in 1956 for a drainage project and continues to have some vested control over the wall, the city should close it. Councilmen William C. Estrada and Brian Donahue voted against using $1,000 from the city’s general fund to close the hole, which is on private property.
