Julie Martinez, founder and instructor of Las Tapitias (Dancing Feet), a Mexican dance program, received the Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year award at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. Martinez has also served as president of the Willmore School and tutors young people in English. “She is a wonderful lady, very deserving,” said Barbara Eames, administrative assistant at the Chamber of Commerce.
Four people were nominated for the award this year. It has been presented yearly since 1970.
