HUNTINGTON PARK — City Council members are proposing to increase their own expense accounts, travel allowances and base salaries. The increased expenditures would more than double their monthly pay and benefits package, city officials say.
The council voted Monday to designate themselves members of a newly created Community Development Commission. Members did not vote on commission salaries, but officials say the new position is expected to increase the council’s monthly salary of $860 to $1,900, plus a car allowance.
The council also instructed city staff to prepare ordinances to increase the daily travel allowance for council members from $200 to $250, and to increase the council’s monthly expense account from $225 to $325 and boost the mayor’s account from $250 to $375.
