A new, futuristic musical based on music of the Doors, “Celebration of the Lizard,” will conclude San Diego Repertory Theatre’s next season, May 28-June 25. It was conceived and adapted by Joel Lipman with the cooperation of Doors keyboard player Ray Manzarek.
Also on the season: revivals of Luis Valdez’s “Bandido!” (Sept. 24-Oct. 17) and the Corneille/Kushner “The Illusion” (Nov. 5-28), the West Coast premiere of the jazz/blues/hip-hop musical “SLAM” (Feb. 4-27) and the premiere of D.W. Jacobs’ solo show “R. Buckminster Fuller: The History (and Mystery) of the Universe,” starring Ron Campbell (March 31-April 23), plus the company’s usual “A Christmas Carol” and three brief dance and music festivals.
