The first person to pull papers to run for the new City Council in Rancho Santa Margarita was Trabuco Canyon resident Mike Safranski. This follows the candidacy announcement by most of the Rancho Santa Margarita Cityhood Committee members on Tuesday.
Safranski, 49, is president of Trabuco Canyon Water District, vice president of the Trabuco Highlands Community Assn. and an alternate member of the Local Area Formation Commission Special District Advisory Committee. Portions of the canyon were added to the city’s boundaries at the last minute when the county agreed to a property tax-sharing deal.
