Although fire service will remain unchanged, residents will have to wait until September to find out if the city will be a voting member of the Orange County Fire Authority.
Capt. Scott Brown, authority spokesman, said the board first must decide how each city balances money paid into the Authority against the level of services they receive.
“The board has made it a unanimous vote to defer membership for Laguna Woods until September,” he said. “We’re in the midst of a fire equity review, which is focusing on how fire services are funded. It’s a matter of policy to first resolve the equity issue before membership.”
