A proposal by Pacific Bell to add a one-story building to a telephone equipment office at the corner of Imperial Highway and South Orange Avenue will be discussed at a public hearing at tonight’s Planning Commission meeting. The utility company has agreed to have a mural painted on one wall of the new addition if city officials approve the project. The artwork will be determined at a later date. If approved, construction on the expansion would start immediately.
To accommodate an increase in population and business in Brea, Pacific Bell needs to expand its 14,630-square-foot, two-story building by 3,200 square feet, according to a city report. The building currently houses automated telecommunications equipment. The Pacific Bell building is in a mixed-use district, which does not address use by a utility company. However, city officials have recommended the Planning Commission approve the project. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Civic & Cultural Center, 1 Civic Center Circle.
