ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Jessica Soto/Softball Pacifica/Senior
Opponents last week thought Soto would be easy to hit, but she wasn’t. She pitched a no-hitter Friday to give the Mariners their third consecutive Southern Section Division III title with a 6-0 victory over Brea Olinda. Soto (23-7) struck out seven and was nearly perfect; she walked the first batter, then retired the next 21 in a row. Her only other no-hitter this season was a perfect game.
Dana Bethel/Track and Field; Mission Viejo/Sophomore
Finished second in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles at the state finals.
Cynthia Tran/Badminton; Garden Grove/Senior
Upset Villa Park’s Amy Nguy and Bonnie Wong, leading the Argonauts to section title.
Bianca Ziemann/Track and Field; Edison/Freshman
Took second place in the high jump at the state finals with a jump of 5 feet 9 inches.
