City staff reviewed the proposed 1999-2000 budget at a special meeting Tuesday. Officials noted modest gains in the city’s general fund, along with a slight decline in total revenue for the current fiscal year. Finance Director William Sweeney said the city’s total revenue--$631,037,752--has declined by 3.8% from last year. More than $153 million will be placed in the general fund, with more than half of that devoted to police and fire services, signaling a continued commitment to public safety, he said. Another budget workshop will take place Tuesday in City Council chambers.
