The City Council approved a fireworks display for July 4 at George Bellis Park. About 9,000 people are expected to attend the festivities, which will include entertainment by a swing band, food and other recreational activities. The event, expected to cost $31,055, is slated to begin at 4 p.m., with fireworks following at 9 p.m. Councilwoman Patsy Marshall objected to the expenditure, saying the money could be better spent on other recreational projects.
