The City Council voted 3 to 2 to raise fees for a variety of programs and activities due to rising costs. The city earns an estimated $2 million annually from fees for community programs, and officials estimated that the department needs an additional $10,000 to $15,000 to continue its current programs. The charges are tailored for each specific program and figured according to what is needed to keep the activity going. Mayor Christina L. Shea said at Tuesday’s council meeting that she opposed the increases. “They’re paying taxes in this community,” Shea said. “I want to give them back something.” Shea and Councilman Dave Christensen suggested the department increase fees for nonresidents.
