B.F. Goodrich May Try to Stop Honeywell Deal

NEW YORK — B.F. Goodrich Co., stinging from rival AlliedSignal Inc.’s antitrust suit against its planned $2-billion purchase of Coltec Industries Inc., may turn the tables and protest AlliedSignal’s plan to acquire Honeywell Inc.
But first, B.F. Goodrich wants to talk to Honeywell, a customer for its avionics equipment, to determine the effect the deal might have on its business, a spokesman said.
The AlliedSignal-Honeywell deal, worth about $14.6 billion, would form one of the nation’s largest industrial manufacturers.
Morristown, N.J.-based AlliedSignal recently won an order that temporarily blocks the merger of Richfield, Ohio-based B.F. Goodrich and Charlotte, N.C.-based Coltec on antitrust grounds. An appeal is scheduled today.
