Pitcher Barry Zito of USC, who played for Pierce College in 1998, has been selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assn. All-American team.
Third-team picks include outfielders Joe Borchard of Stanford, who played at Camarillo High, and Terrmel Sledge of Long Beach State, who formerly played for Cal State Northridge. UCLA outfielder Bill Scott, from Alemany High, received honorable mention.
* Eric Foster of Camarillo, a 6-4 all-league first baseman who hit .393, signed with Texas.
BASKETBALL
* Forward Chantal Kazay, who average eight points and six rebounds as a sophomore, has transferred from Louisville High to Harvard-Westlake.
* The girls’ all-star game tonight between Ventura and Santa Barbara counties has been canceled. The boys’ game will be at 8 p.m. at Moorpark College.
VOLLEYBALL
* Mike Bird, who coached the boys and girls at Highland High for seven years, has resigned and is expected to coach at Mt. Carmel in San Diego.
