L.A. Port Posts Cargo Increase Over Last May

The Port of Los Angeles, the nation’s second-busiest harbor after neighboring Long Beach, recorded year-over-year increases in both imports and exports for May, port officials said Wednesday. On Tuesday, the Port of Long Beach also posted increases in both categories, an indication that Asia is continuing efforts to import its way out of its financial woes while some nations, such as South Korea, are beginning to see sustained economic improvement and buying more exports. At Los Angeles, inbound cargo jumped roughly 13% over May 1998, to 175,535 containers, while exports grew a modest 3% to 70,211.
