LOS ANGELES — In an effort to share the history and arts of the Watts community, a local cultural organization will hold an all-day arts festival today, with free bus tours of the neighborhood.
Local docents will guide tours that explore the community’s historical development, which included immigration by African Americans, Japanese, Swedes and Latinos. Tour sites will include the Watts Towers, Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center and Old Watts City Hall.
The Watts Labor Community Action Committee is sponsoring the festival and tour, with help from $10,000 in matching funds from the California Council for the Humanities.
The festival and tours begin at 10 a.m. at the WLCAC Center, 10950 S. Central Ave.
