Council Rescinds Brush Inspection Fee

The Los Angeles City Council approved an ordinance Friday that rescinds a controversial $13 brush-inspection fee and provides reimbursements to those who have already paid the fees.
Property owners had already paid about $930,000 in fees by the time the council decided the program was too much in disarray to salvage this year.
The 2-month-old fee was aimed at covering the Fire Department’s cost of inspecting 180,000 Mountain Fire District and buffer-zone properties to ensure they comply with brush clearance rules.
An initial mailing, however, was confusing and a follow-up mailing was delayed until all inspections were completed.
