SAN DIEGO — A pickup truck packed with undocumented immigrants overturned north of the Mexican border on Saturday, injuring at least 10 people, authorities said.
Several remained hospitalized, including a girl with a fractured pelvis.
The 1973 Chevrolet pickup, carrying 19 people and the driver, blew a back tire as it traveled on westbound Interstate 8 shortly before 1:20 a.m., a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.
The driver lost control, causing the truck to overturn and throw passengers from the vehicle.
It was unclear how fast the truck was moving, the dispatcher said. The accident occurred near Highway 79, about 20 miles north of the border.
