Rabbit Kekai

Re “Beach Boy Forever,” June 19: Upon graduating from high school in 1953, I arrived in Honolulu on the SS Lurline. We checked into the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and made our way to Waikiki Beach.
I had my first lesson in board surfing from a beach boy by the name of Rabbit Kekai. He was so nice and so patient, and I actually got up, thanks to Rabbit.
We spent the rest of the week going between the Beach Boy Shack and the Outrigger Canoe Club. Thanks for the great memories and “Mahalo, Rabbit.”
