When Kevin T. Colaner was named outstanding staff member at Cal State Fullerton this month, he was not there to accept his award. The assistant dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences was in his office preparing for a student event scheduled for the next evening. That spirit is why Colaner was chosen for the award, university President Milton A. Gordon said. The Fullerton resident has been a part of the campus community since 1994. Last fall, he founded the Guardian Scholars, a program that supports young people leaving the foster care system and striving to earn a degree.
