The city this week will post signs promoting its status as a bird sanctuary--a quarter of a century after the fact. City Manager Fred W. Maley said he wasn’t sure why the 1973 ordinance--calling for signage showing the city’s commitment to the protection and appreciation of birds--was never acted on, but he said he is pleased it will be now. The new 18-by-12-inch signs will be posted along with new welcoming signs at five city entrances. Resident Judy Simons alerted city officials to the missing signs, which she discovered last fall.
