The Los Angeles Board of Education will meet today at 3:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Sepulveda Middle School, the first of four meetings planned this year away from the board’s downtown headquarters.
In February, the board approved a motion by member Valerie Fields, to conduct four regularly scheduled meetings each calendar year in off-site locations around the 707-square-mile Los Angeles Unified School District. The other three sites have yet to be determined, a district spokeswoman said.
“We welcome this opportunity for the community of the San Fernando Valley to participate in the educational process,” Supt. Ruben Zacarias said in a statement.
To encourage community participation, today’s meeting will include an expanded miscellaneous speakers portion, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Board rules limit speakers to a three-minute presentation, and speakers must call (213) 625-6273 or (818) 997-2300 Ext. 6273 before 10 a.m. today to add their names to the list.
Sepulveda Middle School is at 15330 Plummer St.
