Faith Baptist Rewrites Record Book in 57-0 Victory Over Pilgrim

Canoga Park Faith Baptist High set or tied at least seven state baseball records Tuesday in a 57-0 victory over host Pilgrim in a Heritage League game that was called after five innings because of a 10-run rule.

The Contenders (15-5, 10-1 in league) had 50 hits--including 12 doubles, five triples and nine home runs--shattering the record for hits in a game by 13. The nine home runs tied another state record.

Freshman Christian Hariot went nine for nine, setting a state record for hits in a game. He became the 10th player in state history to hit four home runs in a game. Hariot drove in 12 runs.

Julio Bautista went six for eight with 13 RBIs and matched a state record with four doubles. Bautista also homered twice, bringing his home run total to nine on the season.

The Contenders eclipsed the state record for runs scored in a game and their 28 runs in the top of the fifth tied another state record.

Bautista (2-0), a junior right-hander, allowed two hits in five innings.

Pilgrim, winless in 11 league games, used four pitchers and helped the Contenders’ cause with eight errors.
