HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Sciarra, Mitchell Connect to Save St. Francis

John Sciarra threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Brett Mitchell with 54 seconds to play and St. Francis High defeated Harvard-Westlake, 22-19, in nonleague game Saturday night at St. Francis.
Starting the winning drive at the St. Francis 23 with 2:12 to play, Sciarra completed five of 11 passes for 77 yards.
Sciarra needed to complete a 10-yard pass to Mark Garcia on third-and-six from the St. Francis 39 and a 12-yard pass to Scott Ray on fourth and 10 from the 49 to keep alive the drive.
St. Francis (6-0) is ranked No. 2 in the Southern Section Division III.
Lerato Simelane’s 21-yard run with 2:15 left gave Harvard-Westlake a 19-14 lead, but the two-point conversion attempt failed.
Simelane’s two-yard run midway through the third quarter pulled the Wolverines (3-3) within 14-13, but Eric Altschul’s conversion kick went under the crossbar.
Sciarra completed 13 of 23 passes for 213 yards, including 59- and 19-yard first-half touchdown passes to Mitchell and Garcia.
Simelane had 191 yards in 21 carries, including a 17-yard second-quarter touchdown.
