Valley 52, Santa Barbara 28--Eric Holtfreter threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns and the Monarchs (2-1, 1-0) scored twice on defense in a WSC Northern Division game at Valley.
Holtfreter completed 17 of 28 passes with no interceptions, including a 69-yard touchdown pass to Jerome Riley to highlight a 28-point outburst in the third quarter.
Riley caught eight passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Teammate Julian Battle caught six passes for 103 yards and one touchdown.
Santa Barbara (0-3, 0-1) took a 6-0 lead on Brett Van Pelt’s 49-yard run in the first quarter. Van Pelt ran for 150 yards in 20 carries.
Valley’s Damion Thompson and John McPherson returned two interceptions for touchdowns.
Valley outgained Santa Barbara, 519 yards to 460.
