The largest U.S. naval battle group to visit Hong Kong in more than 18 months will dock in Victoria Harbor on Monday, a U.S. Consulate spokeswoman said, another sign that ties between Beijing and Washington are normalizing.
The aircraft carrier Constellation and six other ships have received permission to spend Aug. 20-25 in Hong Kong on a routine port call, consulate spokeswoman Barbara Zigli said.
The Constellation battle group is expected to bring about 6,500 crew members to the Chinese territory for rest and relaxation.
The aircraft carrier John C. Stennis docked in Hong Kong in February 2000.
