Ex-Nationalist Leader Is Slain at Wedding

A former nationalist leader who published a tell-all book exposing the secrets of the island’s shadowy separatist movement was shot to death in southern Corsica, police said.
Francois Santoni, 41, was killed in a spray of automatic gunfire as he left a large wedding celebration in the village of Monaccia d’Aullene about 12:40 a.m., authorities said.
The groom was shot in the lower leg and slightly injured. It was unclear whether others were hurt.
Santoni was a well-known figure in Corsica, where separatists have waged a violent campaign for greater autonomy from mainland France since the 1970s.
