If you could add another game to your team’s schedule, who would you play and why?

Definitely Mater Dei. They’re always getting all these good ratings and we’re always in their shadow, not just in soccer, but in all the other sports. We’d also like to play Santa Margarita. They used to be in our league, but we just don’t get a chance to play them anymore.

Mater Dei, Basketball
[Compton] Dominguez. There’s not many good teams we haven’t played, but that’s one of them. With it being my senior year, I would have liked to have seen them one more time. We missed them in all the tournaments we played earlier this season and we’ll be in separate divisions come playoff time.

An easy question, the answer would have to be Mater Dei. Not because I want to lose a basketball game, but because Mater Dei is the perfect measuring stick for our team. There would be a certain atmosphere around us, one that we usually lack. Everybody would give 110%; people would block out, dive for loose balls and play fearlessly. Though we wouldn’t win, we’d certainly have a different outlook on ourselves as basketball players after the game.

TOM DUGGAN
Edison Alum and Former Baseball Coach
Having recently stepped from the high school head coaching ranks, I can’t add another game to a schedule. But if I was and could, it would be Fountain Valley. If you know anything about the Edison-Fountain Valley rivalries, you’d understand. Also, I loved getting the best of Ron LaRuffa over the last few years.

If I could add one game to anyone’s schedule it would be a three-game series between the No. 1 and No. 2 baseball teams in the county at the end of each season, regardless of the [Southern Section] playoffs.

I’d like to see Irvine and Esperanza meet in a girls’ basketball game. They have similar styles. I’ve seen both teams play against a common opponent and it would be a very tough, hard-fought battle.
