Last 2 of Texas Cons to Fight Extradition
- Share via
The last two of seven Texas fugitives back in custody after escaping in a dramatic prison breakout last month told a Colorado Springs court that they will fight extradition to the Lone Star State.
The pair--Donald Newbury, 38, and Patrick Murphy, 39--surrendered last week after being allowed to complain on television about Texas prison conditions.
Four of the group were captured a week ago near Colorado Springs and a fifth shot himself to death. Of the six now in custody, only alleged ringleader George Rivas, 30, is not contesting extradition, officials said.
The gang is accused of capital murder in the slaying of a police officer during a robbery.
