Crespi Places the Clamps on Borchart, Chaminade

Scott Borchart, Chaminade High’s 6-foot-9 senior center, missed only one shot Monday night against Crespi. The problem was he attempted seven shots in the game against a trapping zone and man defenses designed to deny him the ball.
With Borchart neutralized, Crespi had little trouble in coming away with a 68-51 victory that left the Celts (16-5, 6-2 in league) tied for first place in the Mission League with Loyola.
Andrew Moore scored 17 points, Kingsley Anyanwu had 16 and Charlie Shiebler finished with 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Celts.
Borchart and Jeff Hufford finished with 16 points apiece for visiting Chaminade (14-8, 5-4), which had won five consecutive games. Borchart got off only one official shot in the first half when the Eagles fell behind, 30-22.
“They were surprised by our trap,” Coach Dick Dornan said. “We didn’t want them to run any offensive sets and they didn’t.”
Crespi wasn’t expected to challenge for a Mission championship, but the Celts find themselves in ideal position to win it all.
“Every day they’re getting better and better,” Dornan said. “They really believe in each other.”
