A man whose body was found at a Ventura homeless encampment was beaten to death, police said Sunday.
James Richard Clark, 58, a transient, had been camping next to the Ventura River off Main Street, Ventura Police Lt. Quinn Fenwick said.
Clark’s body was found Saturday morning by laborers who were pulling weeds in the area, Fenwick said.
The lieutenant didn’t know how long Clark had been camping there but said he had been around the city for more than a year. It was unclear how long he had been dead before his body was discovered.
Few clues were found at the encampment, and police were looking for anyone who might have information about the killing.
